Apparently This Happened

Mama Loves invited me to the blog prom.

Prom remembered...

[shudder, shudder]

Why did I agree to go with that boy?

I went with He Who Was Not Even Close To Being My Boyfriend.

I don't even think I really knew him.

Who WAS that prom date? Why did he ask me?

Clearly I killed a many a brain cell during this period of my life because I have no memory of prom and the photo evidence is all that remains.

High School Prom Exhibit A:
He Who Was Not My Boyfriend & I

High School Prom Exhibit C:
Post Prom: When in Rome...er...Milwaukee!

(a.k.a. Where are the guys? WHO CARES?)

Oh. Mah. God. Prom. I haven't thought about that in ages. It was quite a night. You looked adorable. Didn't we all?

I think you should be wondering how your friend ripped off the hat from the Queen herself...what's up with that hat? Peplum or not (shiver), you weren't wearing something one of your southern ladies would be sportin' at church on Sunday...

NICE trucker hats.

Your photos are great. Don't ya just love looking back to that time and wondering, "WHAT was I thinking with that HAIR?" (Or dress or makeup or whatever.)

LOL...love the pic of your boyfriend checking out the other girl. What can I say...guys never got see girls dressed up so much. We had to look at everyone! LOL

Oh, good god. This makes me want a scanner.

I went to two proms (one at my old high school and one at my new one) and the hairdresser at the first wouldn't do my hair the way I asked. I ended up with the worst prom hair ever. I wish I could have gotten my hands on a trucker hat.

I love that prom photo essay. I wish I was there..

My high school didn't have proms, so I never got to experience that. I always wish we had of had one though...

LOVE the trip down memory lane...

You have just reminded me of my Junior Prom. I also went with He Who Was Not My Boyfriend. I had braces. He had braces. But, thankfully, they never locked. :-)

Mona said...

OH MAN. I don't know what's sexier, the slip in that pink dress or the fuzzy garter!

canape said...

Ha. That is so great.

So if that was junior prom, did your date and your friend's date attend senior prom together?

karrie said...

These are too much fun.

Mrs. Chicky said...

Oh. My. God. Look at that garter.

You were too adorable.

whew. the 80s. served up with a side of beer. i think the trucker hats rocked. :)

i luckily have very little photographic evidence left of the hideousness that was my 1989 prom...why was everything so unflattering in those days? including my eyebrows? and those He Who Was Not My Boyfriend types?

thanks for the memory lane waltz.

I never got to go to my prom (we lived overseas) and I always feel a void. Silly I know, but it's a void all the same.

Ah, prom. Good memories, er, laughs. Thank you for that.

Wow, you were HOT. Total MILF in the making. My prom dress was so damn ugly. And let me tell you a little something, I thought I looked flippin' hot. LOL!!!

What a cutie! Garter and racy leg slit and all. You really do look darling.

I was prom queen...BUT, I wasn't the most popular girl in the cool crowd, I was the people's vote I think. A mutiny against The Plastics.

Fairly Odd Mother said...

Ack! Prom!!! Still sends shivers through me. You look adorable!

I went to prom when I was in 10th grade (with a senior! A goofball, but a senior!) and wore a dress that covered more skin than a snow suit. I kid you not.

Wasn't youth fun? I miss my youth.

Sorta.

Not really.

You and Mr. Not Even Close to Being My Boyfriend were actually a very striking couple for what it's worth...

And also, I would definatly pick you instead of your friends date.... (I should definatly add a 'for what it's worth' here too)

Those were all great pics.

flutter said...

Oh, how I love you and your bravery. I never did go to prom.

urban-urchin said...

I went to three proms and only one was with a boyfriend.

My mother has the photographic evidence. Looking at the pics of all three proms I am struck by the same thought- why in the hell did anyone let me leave the house looking like that??!!

Mamma said...

You've come a long way baby!!

Lisa Milton said...

I see you are spreading a little 80s joy too. Love the pictures.

BethGo said...

So... I had to go look up Peplum. I was hoping it would be something dirty.
Darn!

Your prom looked fun. :)

carrie said...

Hee, hee. I love this!

Carrie

ps. I mean that in a totally nice way you know.

Kerry said...

omg, I can't even think about my proms.

Ha! He is like totally checking out your friend. Which I do not get, btw. You are like, so much cuter! (Sorry, this blast from the past brings out my eighties-speak.)

Thankfully my prom pics are 500 miles away from me right now so I can't scare anyone.

Pendullum said...

How adorable...I can hear your laughter and voice through the photographs...
And curious...
Are those pics of your first husband???
YOu mentioned before he was your high school sweet heart... or was this during a fight when you decided to break up and goout to the prom with someone else??/

The Queen Mama said...

Ah, the mid-80s. The flipped-up collars. The belts over the shirts. I remember them well.

Is that a CIGARETTE I see in Exhibit C? You naughty, naughty girls!

And didn't that fuzzy garter tickle? I would've lost it by night's end. Or maybe moved it farther north...

Velma said...

Do I sense an attempt to cover up the girls in that high-neck lace blouse? Oh, well - at least you didn't choose to go with the matronly bride chapeau your friend chose.

Kim said...

great pics :)

I posted a couple of my prom pics too...but sadly, I wasn't wearing a trucker hat!

Dawn said...

Wow. Prom. Haven't thought about that in years. It might be fun to dig up some pics - if I remember correctly there was lots of hairspray and sequins involved... :O

Great post!

Lo-o-oved the photo flashbacks! Thanks for sharing and bringing up my own (ack!) memories of "He who was not my boyfriend". *sigh* Memories.

I, too, went to prom with a person who later turned out to not be heterosexual....we stayed friends for a long time. I only lost touch with him when I moved to WI

Damselfly said...

OK, the guy should have totally been checking out your hot legs with the garter and everything. I mean, really.

And the last photo is so "Reality Bites scene at the mini mart dancing to My Sharona!"

aimee / greeblemonkey said...

Dude, was the chick in the hat going to visit the Queen Mother???

Lawyer Mama said...

Oh, love the hats. LOVE. them.

Nancy said...

Ooh, I love these prom pics. You rocked the peplum!

Girl con Queso said...

Oh my gosh, these photos are great. And what the hell does your friend have on her head?

cynthia said...

I AM THE GIRL IN THE HAT.

And (perhaps shockingly) as I am a fashion designer for a fortune 500 company and essentially paid for having great taste -I gotta say my taste was never bad. It was current for the time. Did any of you pay attention to Madonna???? But, really, defiant then as now, as I knew as well then what looked good. I was totally in style for the day.

80's fashion may not have been at all good. That hat - still to this day - excellent. I still have it, as a matter of fact.

And yes, Jess was always prettier than me....whatever to all of you who made those comments, too....

Kyla said...

Hahaha!! Awesome photos.

Kevin Charnas said...

You look so sweet and adorable in those pics...and the first pic? Is he holding you? Or getting ready to swing you like a 7-Iron? Poor thing...he wanted to swing someone else's club...

I wound up going to my Senior Prom with the foreign exchange student:0
