Amy at Spina Bifida Moms asked me to write a post on the theme of Joy as part of the MSO Theme of the Week.
I've been totally perplexed by this request.
You know why?
Because I, "Oh, The Joys" have spent the week wondering what I could POSSIBLY post on the theme of joy.
Oh, THE IRONY.
Particularly ironic considering that clicking on my post tag: "The Joys" leads to 47 nuggets of completely idiotic ramblings on the subject such as the joy of cross cultural playtime; the joy of fireworks, bambi, smurfs and puppies; and the joy of tooting my horn.
Joy is the veritable plaque on this blogs molars.
But is that enough joy for my inter-galactic, space-age, blog friend, Amy?
Nooooooo.
Amy says: More Joy!! -- JOY RIGHT NOW!!!
The pressure!! GAH!!
[I'll get you back one day, my pretty, my fellow bloganista...]
Lucky for me, Joy has a way of falling in my lap when I least expect it and...
My cousin Shannon up and done birthed herself a brand-spanky-new baby girl just in time!

My cup of joy runneth OVER - and not just because that darned baby is cute as a bug -- I'm even more joyful because you know all that giant plastic baby stuff sitting on my back porch?
That's all going to HER house now.
Mwwaaaa-haaa-haaa!!!

Who knew all this kid crap would take up so much damn room! A U-haul is exactly what you need!
Congrats on the new family member!
Awwww!!! Gotta love the teeny new babies!!
I especially love the thought that I am not responsible for any teeny, new, adorably cute, joyfully loud, infants. There are enough babies in my life right now that I can have my fill of loving and hugging and kissing 'em. And I don't have to change a single poopy diaper unless I wanna!
YaY on the new baby! May Mom find peace, joy, love, and sleep!
The joy of getting rid of clutter...can't beat that.
oooh, that would feel like joy to me.
congrats on the new baby - damn your cousin looks a million times better than i did after i gave birth.
hurray for the new baby...and it's going to be nice having your back porch again won't it.
Like any good compulsive, I would agree that decluttering is joyful.
I will also admit to finding great joy in the act of sweeping. Watching the pile of debris grow is supremely satisfying -- unless one of my boys steps in it, scattering it everywhere, and then it's not.satisfying.at.all.
OMG, that girl looks about 15. And what a cute baby.
Don't you love being able to get rid of all that baby stuff??? But you know, they say as soon as you give it away, you will end up needing it again.
Oh, The Joys Indeed! Babies! Yay!
(I feel your joy at dumping all the outgrown baby stuff, too - I have 6 (SIX!) ginormous tubs of stuff I'm sorting through this week to go to various friends and family - it feels gooooooooood.)
Very good job, lady. You were darn lucky with the birth of that beautiful baby girl! Congrats to all and thanks for playing. You done good.
Amy :)
What a cute baby! And such good cheeks!
Please tell me that she took a hospital gown home with her and then freshened up and put on a little lip gloss before she took that photo 'cause damn, she looks good! Did she really just birth a baby?
Congratulations! Happy, happy, joy, joy!
First, that baby is the cutest.
Second, don't you love when you can drop your old crap off to an unsuspecting new mom?? They are so thankful and you are walking away chuckling saying to yourself: "sucka"!
Lastly, you are genius, I say. Pure genius!
You WIN!! A baby cute as a bug (what does that mean?) and your plastic bag is gone. I call that a Victory!
Why is it that birthing a baby makes her look like she's 12? I always emerged from the experience looking as though I had been dragged under a truck.
Awww! Sweet little baby! Congratulations to your cousin! And congrats to you for getting rid of that baby crap. :)
Very cute little second cousin you have there (or is it first cousin, once removed... I can never get that straight... nonetheless, the baby is cute).
Although I'm with the other commenters: how old is the mama?
It's hard not to feel just a tad jealous of folks with such great genetic make-up - what a lovely new Mom. She looks so...youthful. Best wishes to the new addition. I love new babies (the ones I return to their rightful owners).
Since everyone wants to know - Shannon is 21 (?) maybe 22 (?).
Oh the SHAME I don't know my cousin's exact age.
She is but a wee babe herself.
BUT - while I have vastly more disposable income at MY ripe and smelly old age, she undoubtedly has MUCH MORE ENERGY.
Ah, recycling at it's best!
There is definitely a point that you reach with your youngest when you can't wait for some poor unsuspecting soul to have a baby. They think you are being so kind. He he he. We know the truth!!
No way, me first! When Chip grows out of stuff I just don't know what to do with it. Sure there's always goodwill, but I want to give it to someone I know if I can. Hmmm, does your cousin like getting packages?!?
It's clear from all those nuggets that your kids are your joy. I think you've already said so much and you don't even realize it.
Congrats to your cousin on the new addition!
YEAH!! TAKE THAT, SHANNON!!
Oh, joy! I too had similar elation when I passed off the last bassinet and bouncy seat this week.
And, joy upon joy of seeing a fresh faced little human!
And, JOY! The morning's first latte!
What a sweet new baby!
And there's nothing quite like the feling of unloading old baby things on a new parent...!
Congrats on the new family member! She IS as cute as a button!
And, if anyone can write a post on Joy, you can. You will do great!
I have only the crib to get rid of. I'm half wanting to hang on, the other half wants to throw it out. Hell, i sold the high chair for 20.00 just to be rid of it.
No more diapers soon will be my own personal joy.
Congrats to your cousin, and to you, for getting rid of your baby gear. I'm kinda jealous.
hehehe. Loved it!
For us, your blog is all joy all the time. We are grateful that you are here. You make us laugh, you make us cry, you make us think. That, to me, is the essence of joy.
Oh, and cute babies too!
I enjoy little teeny babies-from a distance. My teeniest is 9 now, and I'm filled with, no, not joy, FREEDOM! Yes, the two older can watch the younger and I'm OUTTIE!
Well, after soccer practice, making dinner, youth group, slumber parties, and oh mom I forgot I have this project due tomorrow and need five yards of string (blue string) and a banana peel.
I need a nap. Thanks for the joy!
OH and how come the instant your post pops up on my blogroll, you alreaady have like umpteen comments? hmmm????
You are clearly deranged and I love it! I can feel the relief oozing out of you. If only kids toys came in lovely neutral and earth tones, I wouldn't so eager to get them out of my house.
On another note, what a sweet little munchkin! Joy indeed.
What a cute kiddo! And I second Iris...careful getting rid of all that baby stuff! I got rid of a bunch of baby stuff last fall, but kept the bassinet and a few maternity clothes because I am THAT superstitious.
hahaha indeed! babies is nice, but uncluttered porches is nicer :-)
That's awesome. Both, the baby and the purging of giant plastic baby stuff.
Aw....congrats on the new family member. ADORABLE!!
I love the feeling of ditching all the old baby gear. There is so much space!!
I totally know what you mean. When I got divorced, I was the one moving out of the house (because he refused when we separated) and when we sold the house and it was time to pack my stuff up and get it all out with movers, I left behind ALL the big fat plastic baby stuff that the kids outgrew. It was awesome. He had to find a way to get rid of it, since he'd been living there all that time alone. HA!
DUDE. You know what happens when you give away baby stuff, right?
First, your cousin looks too damn good for having just had a baby, how come I looked like I lost a fight with a Mary Kay rep and she looks are fresh and stuff?? No fair! No Fair I say!!!
And tha baby.... GAH, she's almost as cute as my tater bug...almost ;)
you get people looking for joy...i get them coming over to me for gay sex; porn; straight sex; and "how to get your man"...*sigh*...
;-)
Very cute yungin'! :)
Awww! Congrats! And how sweet of you to share your abundance of plastic baby crap! We have TONS of that stuff!
I came over here to harass you with my Coney character, but it's too freakin' hard with your blog log b/c it shows my pic! How am I supposed to trick you? Coney had a crush on you and everything. You inspired him to write about Idaho's portable potty system. *sigh*
I hope I don't regret confessing when I remember this in the morning. I should never take a Unisom and then visit blogs. Bad combination. ;)
Way to dejunk! that is a joyous thing indeed!
Cute baby! Almost makes me want another one. Almost.
I have already partaken in the joy that is the unloading of much plastic crap. Every piece. Oh, crap.
What a beautiful baby!
And congrats on unloading all your "baby toys". That is a "joyous" feeling all in itself!
Carrie
Oh there deifnitely is Joy in getting rid of stuff.
Ohhh Yeah...
To declutter and give it as a 'gift' with a big red bow on top....
Our basement is slowly being cleared up...
The gift that keeps on giving...
Just make certain that the Mayor and Rooster do not see you doing it...as those old toys and clothes can be awfully hard for them to give up even though they have not played or worn them in months!!!
awwwwww. What a beautiful baby. Congratulations!
To be fair, that was one day AFTER birth. I'm sure my mother was trying to be nice by only sending out the pics where I didn't look like I had just been dragged up form the bottom of a lake.
I look forward to inheriting your baby crap. I feel like I'm doing some good in this world by being the reason why you get your back porch back.
P.S. I turned 23 on February 28th. Bette was born March 12th. My FIL's bday is March 19th and Ricky's is March 30th. CRAZY!
The mother is wrong! This is the Mother's Mother! This was taken about 5 hours after the birth of that joyous bundle. I will admit it was taken right after she brushed her hair for the first time in ages and maybe even applied some chapstick! But both of my ladies are gorgeous chicks!
I stand corrected. Still, I did look like hell afterwards. I promise!
I love the beebies! Yay for beebies.
But dude, is that girl OLD enought to have a baby?? She looks so young and fresh.
Let's kill her and eat her.
You are hysterical.
It's not an original comment, but OMG, she looks 14 years old (too close for comfort). I KNOW she's not, so that means I'm really, really old.
Congrats on the new addition to the family of Joy.
